Sprinkle a couple of teaspoons of baking soda in each shoe and leave overnight, vacuum it the next day and hopefully the odor will be gone. The easiest and most effective solution. Simply put a bag of SmellWell freshener inserts in your smelly football shoes once you're done using them.
First, try using a teaspoon of baking soda into a thin cotton cloth (or a spare sock), and place the knotted fabric into each boot overnight to absorb the odor. If that doesn't work, you can also place a dryer sheet with some cloves in your shoes for a few hours to combat the smell.
Use Warm, Soapy Water In a bowl, mix warm water with a few drops of laundry detergent. Ideally, you want the solution to be only mildly soapy, but if you find it difficult to remove dirt, add a little more detergent. Use a cloth and a soft toothbrush to clean your cleats, both inside and outside.
Vinegar neutralizes odors and fights bacteria in shoes. Just mix white vinegar with water in equal parts into a spray bottle. Spray the solution inside the shoes after use and allow it to dry. Doing this to your running shoes after every run will keep them smelling fresher for longer.
Hot Water Trick (break in cleats naturally) If you are trying to break in your cleats quickly, a trick that some professional players use is to soak their cleats in hot/warm water with their feet inside. This softens the material quickly and reforms around their foot shape.
How to Clean Football Cleats
Fortunately, baking soda is your friend for both the outside of your white shoes and the inside. Baking soda absorbs odors, something you might already know about from putting a box in your fridge and freezer. It can do the same thing to deodorize your shoes. Measure 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda for each shoe.
If your shoes aren't machine washable, it's easy to make your own deodorizing spray. Just combine ½ cup water and ½ cup of white vinegar in a spray bottle and shake well. Apply a couple of sprays on the inside of your shoes and wipe the interiors with a cloth towel. Allow them to air dry before you wear them again.
